Express Name Moss as Head Coach for 2019

Strasburg, VA – After a challenging summer, featuring a historic number of rainouts and failing to make the VBL playoffs for the first time since 2011, the Strasburg Express are quickly advancing to the 2019 season by announcing that Brock Moss will be taking over as Head Coach. Moss will succeed Anthony “Gonk” Goncalves who played an instrumental role in bringing a 2nd league title to Strasburg in 2016.

Moss is currently the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Georgia Highlands, a Division I JUCO program located in Rome, GA. Entering his 3rd season with the Chargers Moss helped guide the program to a 29-23 record in 2018 and assisted in the development of Noah Bryant, a right-handed pitcher who was selected in the 17th Round by the Kansas City Royals. In his 2017 inaugural season Moss led the Chargers to a 40-21 overall mark and a record 2.96 team ERA. Prior to Georgia Highlands, Brock spent two seasons at Andrew College (NJCAA) where he helped 16 pitchers continue their collegiate careers at four-year institutions.

Moss is no stranger to the summer baseball circuit having coached the Little River Blue Crabs of the Carolina Shore Collegiate League and, most recently, as the head coach of the Hoptown Hoppers in the Ohio Valley League. His Hoppers team just completed their summer having advanced to the OVL Championship Series before ultimately falling in the decisive Game 3. As head coach of the Blue Crabs in 2016, Moss guided his team to a .750 Winning Percentage and had 9 players earn CSCBL All-Star selections. Moss was also selected to be the coach of the All-Star team.

A native of New Iberia, LA and graduate of Montgomery High School in Texas, Moss began his playing career at Morton College (NJCAA) before transferring to Sterling College. While at Sterling, he helped lead his team to a NAIA World Series appearance in 2013.

“Brock was a guy that we had originally communicated with last fall to discuss players for Strasburg. Unable to sign any under NCAA rules…we had a DII coach on our roster, meaning we couldn’t field any JUCO players…Matt (Neal) stayed in frequent contact with Brock. Following a glowing recommendation from former Express Head Coach Stephanos Stroop, we spoke with Brock after our summer ended and made the decision that we wanted to offer him the position for 2019,” said General Manager Parker Neal. “We’ve been very fortunate to have terrific head coaches leading our team over the years and we feel Brock will continue that tradition. He has won at every level and we expect that to continue next summer.”

“First off I would like to thank the Express Board for entrusting me to become the next manager of the Express,” said Brock Moss. “This is an organization with a rich tradition of winning, competing for and ultimately winning championships in the Valley. There is an expectation and standard that has been set here and it will be a fun challenge to meet those standards. My wife and I are excited to have the opportunity to join the Strasburg family and I am thankful to have her support as I add this next chapter to my coaching career. We will get started immediately to build a championship staff and championship roster, and we will work tirelessly until these are completed. Thank you, Strasburg, for the opportunity and we look forward to working towards another VBL championship.”

Moss will immediately begin his search for assistant coaches while also working hand-in-hand with Express management to build the roster for 2019.
