Laase Agrees to Contract Extension
In news that many fans and players have been waiting to hear, the Express have reached an agreement with Coach George Laase to return for a 2nd summer in Strasburg. This will be his 15th season coaching in the Valley Baseball League and his 7th season as a head coach.
In his prior 6 seasons as a head coach, Laase amassed 152 wins (including playoffs) to go with 2 division titles – one in each division – and the 2021 Lineweaver Cup as coach of the league champion Strasburg Express. His 2021 season in Strasburg will go down as one of the best in team history compiling a 33-14 overall record to go with a regular season North Division title, North Division playoff pennant, and culminating with a league championship.
The ultimate players coach, with Covid ruining the 2020 VBL season he spent the summer dominating the Rockingham County Baseball League from the batter’s box. Laase would bat .422 for the Bridgewater Reds in 45 ABs, hitting 5 home runs to go with 22 RBI and 12 runs scored. For his efforts on and off the diamond Coach Laase was named the 2020 RCBL Person of the Year.
