Laase Releases 2021 Coaching Staff

Strasburg, VA – The Strasburg Express and Field Manager George Laase are excited to announce the remainder of the coaching staff for this summer. Pat Barrett will jump aboard and handle the pitchers, while Collin Scott will handle the hitting coach duties. In addition, Christian Rodriguez will be joining as a volunteer assistant coach.

Pat Barrett is currently the Director of Operations and Player Development at Longwood University in Farmville, VA. Prior to Longwood, Barrett made coaching stops at Franklin Pierce University, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Albert Magnus College. He also served as a Pitching Coach in the Hamptons League, who like the VBL is a member of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB). While in college, Barrett played his freshman season at Briarcliffe College in New York before transferring to Virginia Wesleyan University for his remaining years of eligibility. Manager George Laase said “Pat has received incredible endorsements about his work ethic and love for the game from his peers. With previous summer experience to go along with his NCAA resume, we are excited to have Coach Barrett on board to run the pitching staff.”

Having just recently finished his college career, Collin Scott is in his first year as an assistant coach at Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH. Scott finished his playing years at Franciscan as well, having played the previous years at Mount Union in Alliance, OH. Laase had this to say about Scott: “Collin Scott is an Ohio Valley native, like myself, and has already made an impact on the Franciscan University baseball program in his first year as an assistant. Under his tutelage, their offense this spring is leading the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in multiple categories and continues to put runs on the board. Coach Scott has a great future ahead of him with a great launching point here in Strasburg.”

Christian Rodriguez currently resides in Harrisonburg and is an assistant baseball coach at Harrisonburg High School, as well as manager of the Valley Scout travel baseball team. “Christian Rodriguez will be in his first year as a volunteer assistant in the Valley League this summer. C-Rod has worked with local high schools and travel teams, always doing the little things that continue to be the glue of positive student-athlete experience. There is no doubt our hitters will love his firm batting practice,” said Laase.

Players begin reporting to Strasburg around June 1st, with the summer season kicking off on Saturday, June 5th.
