Traywick Named New Manager

Strasburg, VA – After a national search which yielded many strong candidates with a variety of backgrounds, the Express are thrilled to announce that Peyton Traywick has been named the Manager for the 2023 summer.

Traywick is currently the pitching coach at the College of Central Florida (CoCF), one of the top NJCAA baseball programs in the country. He fills the void left there by highly respected VBL coach Zac Cole, who took the head coaching gig at Florida Southwestern during the summer. Prior to arriving at CoCF, Traywick served as the associate head coach, pitching coach, and recruiting coordinator at Camp Community College in Franklin, VA for two years. He has experience in scouting and compiling analytics in the Latin American market, acting as the Director of Operations for Global Sports Metrics for two years as well. His background also includes being a member of the Tampa Bay Rays player development department in 2019 and 2020. A native of Arkansas, Traywick graduated from the University of Central Arkansas where he served as an assistant coach after shoulder injuries prematurely ended his playing career.

Express General Manager Parker Neal had this to say regarding the hire: “Peyton is a guy we’ve known for a few years now, having interviewed him for our pitching coach position a couple summers ago. We offered him the position but were unable to make things work for various reasons at that time. While we received a ton of resumes and deeply interviewed several individuals, Peyton quickly stood out due to his high energy level, reputation within the college game, and connection base for recruiting purposes. His mind truly does not stop thinking about baseball at any hour of the day or night. He is highly regarded as one of the top up-and-coming pitching coaches in college baseball and received glowing recommendations from individuals that we know and trust. This is proven by the fact he has taken over as the pitching coach at the College of Central Florida, who is one of the Top 5-10 JUCO programs in the country. We are excited to continue the Express brand of baseball that we all have come to expect, while being even more excited to see what new heights Peyton can help us reach.”

On accepting the position, Traywick had this to say: “I want to thank Jay, Parker, Matt, and the entire Express Board of Directors for the opportunity to lead Strasburg next summer. Strasburg has a rich tradition of winning at a high level over the past 8 seasons. I look forward to the opportunity to bring an exciting brand of baseball and, ultimately, another VBL Championship home to the community of Strasburg.”

Traywick will quickly begin working with Neal to continue to build out the roster for 2023, as well as round out his coaching staff which we will announce at a later date.
